 | Aug 17, 2004 - Hot Tub 2K4 cam and went.... | Spitfire |
| | Well folks, its all over - and if you're wondering why its taken me so long to update on the party, just assume I've been spending this time cleaning up the mess! soul_d's prediction
that this would be the tub party to end all tub parties wasn't far from the truth - this year definately broke attendance records, and as well attracted a record amount of police according to any party that *I've* been to.
Another reason I delayed this update was to wait for the pictures to come in. Well, I believe Barb even broke a record this year for the amount of pictures taken during a hot tub party - up from 109
last year, to 248 this year. You can click on the images below to view the full gallery. My only dissapointment is that none of those pictures really show off the total gong show that was Friday night...I'm hoping that either Ian or Vance come up with
some pictures of the 50-60 person crowd in the backyard!

Special thanks go out to our long-distance guests who were able to attend the party this year - and made the journey just FOR the party. This includes our good friend Darren who flew all the way from Chilliwack, Candice from Calgary and Barb from Regina. Also,
Steven's sister Tony (from London) was able to stop by on Saturday night which was a special treat, and she brought me booze!
I should also thank those who helped prepare for the party this year. Dawn for helping me get the yard ready for weeks prior to the actual event, Vance for helping pay for the burgers and actually grilling them for us, and also for buildling a pretty sweet
bench seat for the 'games area'. Steven and his dad for supplying (once again) the
awesome BBQ AND firepit, Fred for the stools and chairs and condiments, Dallas for building a gigantic burning alien and helping me go through the mp3 list - also for helping repair the foosball table. Thank you Barb and Ian for taking so many digital pics during the party, and a big thanks to Candice for
bringing me my Texas Mickey of vodka all the way from Calgary. Thanks Crystal for the pizza on Saturday, Graeme and Ian for the fireworks show, Ian for contructing the 'death-maze' Sunday night, and finally my neighbors for putting up with the whole ordeal (even though one of you called the cops on friday!), and I-Gene/Eli for
taking the time to at least try and watch us on the shitty webcams! Also Warren for helping me to believe in time machines.

For those of you who weren't able to attend - the party was quite similar to last year's except on a much larger scale. To begin with, in addition to last year's pooltable - we were able to add foosball to the 'games area' this year.
The music was far better organized this year according to what people wanted to hear - and I hope that everybody got the chance to hear at least something they submitted. The webcam broadcast worked pretty slick as I was able
to get ahold of 3 cheap webcams to use - too bad they didn't do so well in the dark! I was also able to come across a fridge for the deck this year, and it looks like next year could use two!
Friday night drew an estimated 50-60 guests in total, with probably at least 45 of them present at one time. I was quite impressed that, despite the large turnout and noise level, everybody stayed within the backyard and there really wasn't any
trouble caused at all. This year nothing went missing, not a single beer-bottle was broken (other than an accident where a few unopened bottles were dropped during transport!) and there was very little mess to clean up other than cigarette butts (there goes your theory about
courteous smokers using ashtrays, Dallas!) and bottle caps.
JayB managed to slice open his head on the corner of the tub Friday night which knocked him out cold and earned him a ride to the hospital (thanks to Dawn's brother-in-law Brad for driving Jason and Linsie there!). I picked up the two of them around 5am and Jason was
doing well, although he didn't come back Saturday night.
The police were called sometime Friday night and arrived around 2:30am. They sent 4 cruisers and, I believe, about 8 police officers to 'control' the party. I think they were surpirsed that we co-operated so well. The majority of the party was cleared out at this
point, with about a dozen people staying behind to close the party down over the next hour. Friday night also had a constant display of fireworks between 11:00 and midnight which continued to light up the sky during that hour - and no doubt probably caused
the call to the police!

Saturday, as it has always been, was a slower night - with only a couple-dozen attendees, but still a good time nonetheless with a few new guests that couldn't make it out on Friday. Crystal was kind enough to order pizza at one point, and Connor, Tony and their group were able
to swing by! Graeme spent some quality time on the trampoline with the blow-up doll and many of us spent some 'quality' time in the hot tub with no pants.
Sunday as promised was a nice laid back party with slightly less guests than Saturday night - but went hard until around 4:30am. Good to see that Ian was able to make it out for quite awhile and contruct his promised 'death-maze' - through which both Ian and myself
crawled, and it almost claimed our lives. Thanks to Tyler and Shauna for making a McDonalds run and picking up cheeseburgers.
In the end, thanks to everyone for coming out and making this years hot tub party the best ever! Its really great to see everyone and I was really honored to find out that so many people took time off from work,
and missed out on other events just to make it out this year. I should thank Dallas, and his dad, for starting this tradition back in 1997 and allowing me to take it over. It's been a lot of work, but a lot of fun - and I plan to keep this going with everybody's help!
As a couple last notes - if anyone else took pictures during this party - I'd love to see them. You can send them to me or drop by anytime - I'm not working this week.
Also, a few people have requested to download songs from the weekend playlist - I've re-enabled the hottub ftp account so you can leech away at it for the time being. You'll noticed the folder is now divided into 3 main folders, the "80's Power Hour", "Prime", and "Sunday". they should
be pretty self-explanitory. There is also the un-edited submission folder if you want to sort through that.
And thats it - I'll post again if any new pictures show up!

 | Aug 13, 2004 - For those of you who couldn't make it... | Spitfire |
| | Just one last note before the big party tonight (and tomorrow night) - I will be setting up a triple-angle webcam portal for those of you who couldn't make it down (especially you, mrp). So just click on the
regular rblords cam image below to open up the cam window. By tonight it should be refreshing fairly often.
And I'll see the rest of you guys and gals in a matter of hours!

 | Aug 09, 2004 - Hot Damn thats a lot of music! | Spitfire |
| | Well folks - as I write this, the hot tub ftp folder has grown to 659 mp3s - roughly 35 hours of music! I must commend all of you for making a huge effort to upload your tunes this year - we've
really ended up with a wide variety of party music. Unforunately, we have about twice as much as we will actually have time to play.
So...I have an announcement to make: the hot tub ftp account will be taken offline effective 5:00PM on Wednesday at which point I will be 'reviewing' the selections. Don't worry,
I'm not out there to cut out a bunch of the music that 'I don't like'....but I will likely need to thin it out (or rather cut it in half). Likely what will happen is that where there are multiple songs uploaded
by one artist, I will have to cut it down to 2-3 songs - stuff like that.
 |
Also, because of the high amount of great 80s tunes uploaded this year - I've decided that Friday and Saturday 8:00-9:00 is going to be the 80s rock hour! This will take care of a lot of the music
which isn't exactly upbeat, but still kicks ass all the same and needs to be heard! There will also be a selection put aside for Sunday night, which will consist of a lot of the slower tunes which just
don't fit in with the hardcore nature of Friday and Saturday night. Hope you guys can live with that! I promise I won't butcher things up that much, but this will help make sure everybody gets to hear at least some
of their tunes!
Ok, so content wise...I have something that James McKay really has to take a look at - this awesome flash video about the election.

Blue4130 tells me this video
has been under discussion in the Globe&Mail, and has created quite the uproar. Not sure why (they make fun of both the democrats and the republicans quite evenly - and accurately), but either way its still a very well put together piece! Have a look!
Also, there is a new comic today - so check that out.
Also make double-sure to click on that gigantonormous burger up there to see some more pictures of it. The email I recieved with these pictures stated that these burgers are served in a restaurant
in Pensylvania - they are 9lbs and cost $23US. 9lbs!!! Anybody in for a roadtrip to Pensylvania?? Like, tomorrow??
Thats all I really have time to say today - only 4 days to the hot tub party, is everyone excited? It's going to be a good one! Oh, and one more thing...for those of you who
can't attend this year (most noteably mrp - we will be setting up a dual-web camera stream on rblords at the time of the party - so watch for that as well!

 | Aug 05, 2004 - Another quick note... | Spitfire |
| | Sorry guys, the ftp server for the hot tub mp3s filled up today. I deleted some crap that was lying around and managed to get some space back - so by all means, continue to upload!
(Oh, and happy birthday to me!) :-)

 | Aug 02, 2004 - Just a quick note.... | Spitfire |
| | ...just a quick update to inform everyone that I have set up an ftp account for hot tub 2K4 music. Just like last year, go ahead and upload any mp3s you like to this folder and they
will be added to the playlist at the party. Thanks to soul_d and Audiophile for reminding
me about this!.
Just ftp to Rblords.com, Username: hottub Password: 2k4 (all lower case).
And since I feel bad about updating without any interesting content - here's a new comic.
Chao!
